Revere Jesus

For 40 Days our focus will be Jesus -

1. Do you know Jesus?

If you don't know Jesus we invite you to discover who he is! We long for every person to know Jesus and encounter His presence and the abundant eternal life He offers us each.

Jesus was a real person who lived over 2,000 years ago. Read the multiple eye witness accounts of who Jesus is and what He said. This is recorded in an ancient manuscript that is readily available in our times in multiple translations and online. It is the Bible. You could start by reading the book written by his close friend, John

2. Do you revere Jesus?

To ‘revere’ is to regard with respect tinged with awe; to venerate. our reverence means respect, admiration, worship, awe, venerate astonishment, amazement, devotion.

The more we know Jesus the more we become compelled by his beautiful generous, kind, gracious nature and by how much he knows us and cares about us.

We revere Jesus when we join heaven in night and day 24/7 eternal worship of God.  We revere Jesus when we radically surrender as Jesus’ disciple and radiate his likeness – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. (Galatians 5:22-23)

We revere Jesus when we live in intimacy with our Father through Jesus and the Holy Spirit’s revelation and blessing – and overflow this to those around us. It is how we make Jesus’ kingdom visible on earth and bring glory to the Father.

Revere Jesus with us: Whisper by Jason Upton. "Jesus when you speak to me I hope I'm listening to you. Let this heart of mine receive what is full of grace and truth. Whisper whisper whisper in my ear. Tell me words I thought I'd never hear. Show me show me show me what you see. Illuminate what's right in front of me. There's so much more to what we see. Sometimes I'm scared to take it in. Is that you right in front of me? Are you the stranger or the friend? Whisper whisper whisper in my ear. Tell me words I thought I'd never hear. Show me show me show me what you see. Illuminate what's right in front of me. What you whisper in my ear. Let it find room in my heart. Like a garden let your words begin to grow. When my faith is prone to fear, remind me of your love. Remind me that you'll never let me go. I will not forget. I will not forget All you've done for me. Whisper whisper whisper in my ear. Tell me words I thought I'd never hear. Show me show me show me what you see. Illuminate what's right in front of me."

3. We become like the things we look at

If we revere Jesus we will follow Him and do what He says. The suffering in this world is on His heart. He calls us to reach the perishing so they can know Him and have eternal life. Jesus has asked us to tell others everything He has taught us and that when the gospel is taken across the whole world, the end will come.  During the 40 Days we will unpack who we are called to be in these end days.

John 14:12-18  “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever the Spirit of truth… you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”

4. Revere Jesus as the Lamb of God

John 1:29 “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

Jesus is described as the Lamb of God 38 times in the New Testament! In this era we tend to venerate the characteristics of the Lion - and overlook the Lamb.

The Moravians were a group of refugees in Germany in the 1700's, who prayed night and day for over 100 years and took the gospel to the ends of the earth. They challenged each other with these words, "Our Lamb has conquered. Let us follow Him!"   "May the Lamb of God receive the reward of his suffering."

Daily Prayer Points

During the 40 Days we will pray for the Holy Spirit to help us reach our neighbours as witnesses in our local areas “and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8) May “this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14) Pray for the unreached people around you and  unreached people groups at the ends of the earth. Reach out to local people to share the gospel with them and pray for and support harvest workers to the distant areas.

  • We will pray each day for the unreached people around us locally.
  • We will pray each day for Australia as we host the XXI Commonwealth Games (4-15 April 2018), praying that the Gospel is clearly presented to unreached people in the Australian towns that the Queen’s Baton passes through, and in the nations associated with Gold Coast 2018.
  • We will pray for 40 unreached people groups across the world, who have not heard the gospel. Finishing the Task.

Pause to revere Jesus with us:

Be Enthroned by Brian & Jenner Johnson, "We've come to join the song sung long before our lives. To raise our voice along heaven and earth alike. We've seen Your faithful hand, Your mercy without end, A King who bled and died, A God who sacrificed. Be enthroned upon the praises of a thousand generations. You are worthy. Lord of all! Unto You, the slain and risen King, we lift our voices with heaven singing, Worthy, Lord of all!"
